EAGLES

Eagles in Haines Alaska

Have just spent a couple of great days photographing eagles on the Chilkat River in Haines Alaska. Thought it might be cold and rainy but was sunny,  dry and just beautiful.  The highway was good winter driving.  The first afternoon there were lots of birds but most were too far out on the flats for good photos.  The next two days a large number were most cooperative and stayed in close.

SOUTH

Spotted Towhee

Just home from a month long trip to B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan.  Nice outing.  Saw lots of friends and relatives but snow storms and wind followed us the entire trip.

Ryan's Kelowna backyard was a very productive spot
for wildlife shots.

Busy Bears

Just back from several beautiful days in Haines Alaska.  The sun was shining and a number of bears were busy fishing and putting on weight in preparation for winter.  Photographers were there from all over the world recording the activity.

The weir was pulled with a final count of over 140,000 sockeye.  The bears then spread out over the river for their fishing.

Fox Family

On one of our recent trips to Haines we spotted a mother fox and one cooperative kit.  The little one was busy eating a Ptarmigan and playing around the den.  Mum stuck around for a while, then went hunting, leaving junior to be photographed.

In Haines we found a new bear that also didn't mind having his picture taken.

Fishing was slow.  We missed the week when 50,000 sockeye went throw the weir.  Weather was great and so was the kayaking.

Herons and Kingfishers

A few more days having photographic fun in Haines Alaska.  Weather was rainy, nobody was catching fish, but two-year-old grizzly cubs were out every day, and Great Blue Herons and Kingfishers were posing much of the time.

Trumpter Swan family along the road.

Cubs would roll over rocks almost as big as they and the cubs and the crows would dine on whatever was underneath.

Rock rolling takes a lot of work.

Keeping on the move.

Moose in hot water

Liard Hot Springs

Had a lovely four-day stay at Liard Hot Springs.  Campground was great.  Weather was too.  Six moose or more were most co-operative photographically.

Lots of black bears and bison, as well as interesting birds.
